Anyone that’s been on Google today has seen this logo:

Wonder why it’s up there? Today is the 118th birthday of Albert Szent-Györgyi, who is credited with discovering Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is commonly associated with citrus fruits, like oranges and lemons, because they were among the first sources readily available to surgeons on shipping vessels in the late 1700′s. While oranges are excellent sources of Vitamin C, containing about 50mg/100g, they pale in comparison to the wild potato which contains 3,100mg/100g of Vitamin C! September 2, 1982 was Domenic’s first day with Pee Jay’s Fresh Fruit. 29 years later, he’s still going strong and Pee Jay’s hasn’t been the same since! Congratulations Domenic and here’s wishing you another 29 years!

Christopher Columbus is credited with discovering the pineapple on the island of Guadeloupe in 1493, although the fruit had long been grown in South America. He called it piña de Indes meaning “pine of the Indians.”

In 1873 three navel orange trees were brought from Brazil and planted in Riverside, California. The trees started producing fruit in 1878. Today, one of the three original trees is still alive and producing fruit.
